Our culminating celebration for the Silas Wood Sixth Grade Center and Stimson Middle school students was held at the Heckscher Museum on Friday, May 19. Students from all three sessions of our after school Artists Come Alive program were led by Heckscher staff through a project inspired by the current exhibit by Thaddeus Holownia: Walden Revisited, a full-gallery installation that evokes a portrait of the site of Henry David Thoreau’s 19th century experiment in simple living at Walden Pond.
After the tour of the museum and the lesson, the museum was opened to the public for a display of all of the students’ work created during the past year of Artists Come Alive! Parents and visitors were welcomed to a reception and viewing compliments of Heckscher Museum. What a wonderful opportunity for our young artists to be able to display their work in an actual museum! Huge thank you to Heckscher Museum and SHUFSD for their continued support of this collaboration.
